Loosing wireless connection after a few hours

dzacharias

My weatherstation is currently losing the connection to my Wifi after a few hours and does not reconnect. Also it then does not react to any button "press", no matter how long. If I restart the weatherstation the connection is established again and working again for a few hours.

I already tried two different Wifi networks (I have one older WPA/WPA2 Wifi running for old devices and a regular WPA2/WPA3 Wifi, on both the same behavior) and also found the tipp to not have a 5ghz / 2,4ghz combined wifi, which I already changed to use different SSIDs.

Does anyone has an idea what I could try to solve the issue?

I have the same behavior with my station. I‘ve even bought a new one. But problem still persits with the new station. That is extremely annoying and Netatmo should fix that very soon.
Firmware of the station ist 204.

Additional information to my above post:

When the station is marked as unconnected or plugged off in your App and is unresponsive for touch, the station is still connected to my WiFi and is pingable without packet loss.

So it is clear, that there’s no failure on my side. The station losses just the connection to the Netatmo servers.

So you (Netatmo) have to fix that. It is extremely annoying to power of and on the station five or more times a day.

I have this problem too. Once again!
I've tried everything: different WiFi settings (WPA, wireless channels automatic and fixed, 5GHz switched off), proxies changed, simpler passwords (without special characters), etc. Nothing helps. When logging into the WiFi again via the Netatmo app, the transfer of the network from the cell phone to the Netatmo WiFi on the cell phone is briefly interrupted and then the famous message appears: “An unknown error has occurred. Please try again.”. After 6 hours of working on it, I just don't feel like it anymore. Please Netatmo - even if it is related to the new iOS 18 (?), do something about it. It can't be that we have to throw away all your weather stations...

@david: The behavior the is different from my station. My station is also disconnected from wifi and not pingable any more.

I will try to disconnect it from my profile and create a new netatmo profile with a different Email address, maybe this helps if it is just an app or profile problem.

If this will not work it seems to me that the station is only expensive electronic garbage.

It seems to me that you can not expect any direct support here in this help forum.

I’m experiencing exactly the same issue! After a few hours, my Netatmo weather station stops responding to button presses, although it’s still visible on the Wi-Fi network. Only disconnecting and reconnecting the power restores functionality, but the problem reoccurs after a few hours.

I’ve also tried different networks (WPA/WPA2 and WPA2/WPA3) and separated the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz SSIDs—none of which resolved the issue. Netatmo urgently needs to release a firmware update to address this problem!

Same issue here. Keeps disconnecting from Homekit and on-and-off in the app. Also resetting and reconnecting is very problematic. Please fix Asap since I now have a bricked Weather station I cannot use.

    Hello everyone,
I have the exact same issue. The connection drops after a few hours and can only be restored by unplugging and plugging it back in.
One question for all of you who are experiencing this issue: what WiFi hardware are you using? I have devices from Unify and I'm not sure if the problem could be coming from there.
If the WiFi hardware is different for all of us, the problem is DEFINITELY with Netatmo, and they should fix it as soon as possible

    @horst

In my case, the WiFi Hardware is a ASUS GT-BE98. So the failure is on Netatmos side.
But it seems that it doesn’t care Netatmo.

No comment from them. It’s the worst Support I noticed since years.

They only want your money. Everything else they don’t care about.

Maybe that’s the french mentality in making business…

My Wifi hardware is a Fritzbox 5590 and I also tried it with an older TP Link Ap500, both were not working, so I do not think it is related to the wifi hardware

Alright, then it's quite obvious that the problem doesn't lie with our hardware or our WiFi settings.
On one hand, I'm relieved that the WiFi isn't to blame, but on the other, I know that the WiFi community would likely have found an answer to the cause of the problem more quickly.
I recently added a wind and rain gauge - right now, the whole thing is just very expensive electronic scrap.

Keeping it fresh, not that it seems to help. The system worked flawlessly for a year or so, only requiring me to change the external sensor battery at long intervals.
Then, this issue began. Clearly they pushed buggy code out and now our systems don’t maintain the connection.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a similar system that works? This is a shame. My kids gave me the NetAtmo (not cheap) and it impressed me for a bit. Now it’s too unreliable. I and going to suggest the kids post bad reviews wherever they bought it. Caveat emptor.
    Hope they fix the issue.

I have almost the same issue. My station just looses connection within a few minutes.
You could expect some kind of reaction from Netatmo. It will of course take some time for them to find and correct the bug but a reaction from Netatmo would be appropriate.

    Update of 23/12-24

I think I have solved the problem. Replaced the PSU and now it seems to work. So for me it is a bad PSU.

FWIW here’s what they emailed me:

“The radio signal of your Main Station could be improved, as it's very weak.
Could you please try moving it closer to your modules or moving the station itself?
When installing your modules, I would recommend you to:
    • place them in a location where they will receive at least 3 bars of signal
    • check that there are no obstacles: thick walls/ metal objects/ electronic devices between the main station and your other modules
    • check whether there is a device that uses the radio frequency 868 MHz (wireless alarms, automatic garage doors/ automatic shutters)
    • Turn the station to the module (The rift/ brand should be facing toward the module)”

I didn’t have my serial #. so I gave the MAC address.

I went through the known issues and chose whatever seemed most appropriate, then submitted a request.

NetAtmo responded via email just a few hours later.

I haven’t done any of the suggestions. The system is working fine now, two days in; no problems.

Whether this is because of my request, Amazon review, whatever; I don’t know. But it works.

Same problem for me. The Smart Home Weather Station (Hardware version v4, firmware 204) frequently looses the network connection.  Have recently bought station number 2 for use at another location at home.  However the new bought has shown this instability from the start.  When loosing the connection it becomes none responsive, and only repowering again brings it back to normal.
The network connection is strong, and the station is placed at the same location as my older station was. (which functioned for years without this problem)
    The router is an ASUS.

Netatmo must as a professional and responsible company fix the problem.  Have raised a support request and is now waiting for a response and a fix to what ever is wrong.

My weather station regularly loses the Wi-Fi connection several times a week and sometimes it works again, or just the reconfiguration of the Wi-Fi Setting helps

Please fix it! It‘s not difficult that a device should support a stable connection.

Many bugs for a pricy product and who has partnerships with Somfy etc.

p.nordestgaard, pardon my ignorance but what is a PSU?

My main unit continues to disconnect seemingly randomly every so often. Unplugging it for a while allows it to reconnect. Still trying to troubleshoot w/NetAtmo. They wonder if it generates a “touch on demand” message. The answer is no.
I’m wondering if the power supply is faulty.

Sorry. PSU is the Power Supply Unit. I would say that your power supply is faulty. I have replaced mine with a mobile charger and now it works.

Thank you! Was it hard to find the proper specifications?

No, the specs on the Netatmo power supply is 5V/0.4A and I had a spare mobile charger supplying 5V/1.5A. Therefore it should maintain a more stable 5V.

@Torben: where I can Open support requests??

@p.nordestgaard: is it wrong to use the default one, which is part of the standard Package?

No, mine just failed after 3/4 year. I haven't tried to get a new one from Netatmo yet. Found the problem one week ago and wanted to be sure of my finding before I started further talk to Netatmo.

p.lo, to open support requests you have to go through their menu and select a problem, even if it doesn’t seem to fit.

p.nordestgaard, thx for the details. I’m sure I have a PSU in a drawer that’s worth trying.

p.nordestgaard Thank you very much, changing the power adaptor seems to work for me as well.

The weather station is now stable working since three days. Interesting that just unplugging and replugging always worked to reset the station (and obviously also reseting the psu). So I would never had the idea that the adaptor could be the fault cause.

That’s great the PSU change seems to fix it for at least some owners. Sadly changing PSUs hasn’t seemed to make mine more reliable. Still needing to unplug it and reset every day or so, which I’m documenting. Trying various PSUs and outlets. Hello, NetAtmo? Help?

Success? 🤞 I moved the main unit 31.12.24 from a spot with 3/4 signal strength to 4/4 signal strength and have not lost connection or had any problems for 8 days. This is by far the best performance since the problem mysteriously began. Nothing else was changed. To be fair, NetAtmo customer service suggested trying a new location but with solid 3/4 signal I thought it wouldn’t help. I am on the original PSU. Hope this helps someone.
