Batteries don't last long in my Smart Thermostat
Hi,
I have a Netatmo Smart Thermostat that is also driving 3 valves in radiators.
When I had no valves, the thermostat batteries lasted for more than a year, but every time I have added a new valve the Thermostat batteries last less time. Currently I have to change them every 2 or 3 months.
The netatmo thermnostat is placed in my second residence and often I can not turn on the boiler because the thermostat batteries ar completly empty.
Is there a way I can connect the thermostat to an external power supply? I see that there are a two pins inside the thermostat, can tey be used for powering the thermostat.
Model: Smart Thermostat
Serial number: 04:00:00:11:3a:e4
FIrmware versions: 0 (in the mobile App it says "0", maybe this is because currently the thermostat has the batteries empty)
Thanks for your support,
Jordi

I have the same problem.
Tha battery of thermostat during one week.
How is possible?
There is possibility to use different alimentation?
I've the same problem, my thermostat started to drain batteries, they last 4 days. I bought netatmo thermostat this summer, but I had another one , same model, and I was used to change batteries once a year. What's happened? Anyone received answer from netatmo? Thx
I also have this problem after changing the batteries after 2 years I now have to change them every few days and they are not empty in reality
I have the same problem, batteries used to last for months, now they only last for a few days. If Netamo can't offer a solution, I will change the whole system. Fortunately the thermostat only runs my boiler and no valves.
Hi, I also have three valves and since I replaced the original batteries, the batteries last about 2 weeks. This is not normal!
How can this be resolved? Thank you very much for your help, Jose
It looks like a known problem. I had recently the same problem with 2 thermostats (4 and 6 yrs old) failing at the same time with that problem.
Netatmo offered a (paid) repair. Unfortunately they asked to ship the unit to France and offered no temporary backup. Quite a disappointing support option. Have to buy new ones (other brand, of course).
If you can stay without thermostat for few weeks (of have a spare one), you can have it repaired/changed (depends on warranty).
zehnit, can you please let me know what alternative thermostat and relay you switched to? Thanks
I used one that could provide a 4.5V output and connected it to the battery slots, using a piece made with my 3D printer to avoid soldering directly to the Netatmo device.
@ jeffpcrooke I ordered 2 Bosch thermostats, as the heating unit.
They should have a much better (local) support. I’m done with Netatmo: after 8 years with their products being buggy, now no support. My time should be spent on more productive things
I have given up with them too. They wanted 44 Euro to repair but I would have had to send the thermostat back to France and bodge a temporary fix to run the boiler as they wanted the relay as well. Clearly they have an inherent design fault or have used poor quality components (or its inbuilt obsolescent of function?). Anyway I will always advise against use of their kit.
Funny thing is, that the problem is not paying for an out of warranty repair, is the complete lack of support alternatives: a temporary replacement with a refurb unit, a discount on a new/refurb one, just to avoid staying weeks without a thermostat, in winter. No way.
Pity as Netatmo concept was good, but as usual, a nice startup once swallowed by a big group, falls down in the drain of lack of development and poor client support. Already seen this.
Zehnit - yes exactly. Legrand not the best.
Obviously a design fault or software/firmware bug As everyone also has the same display rotation issue at the same time.
They are rolling out an update that switches the temperature check increments on the thermostat from 0.1 to 0.5. Which means less checks done by the unit, supposedly to increase its life expectancy. I wonder if this fix has anything to do with the battery gate issue.
Good morning everyone, I think I have the same problem as you: the display on one of my two thermostats shows the text rotated, and it’s impossible to set it straight. As if that weren’t enough, the batteries only last 5 or 6 days. I’ve already written 3 emails to customer support, but no one has replied. Has anyone here managed to find a way to solve the issue?
I have the same problem: the display is not rotating, and the batteries get empty in one week. Can the firmware be updated?
Tengo el mismo problema: la pantalla no gira y las pilas se agotan en una semana. ¿Se puede actualizar el firmware?
I solved with a battery eliminator. Ok, Is not practical like the ... Standard way, but It works fine.
Why are my batteries draining after only 3 days. They used to last over a year. Why the change?? Please help
Netatmo Will not help you. I solved buying a battery eliminator on Amazon
I finally solved the problem.
Netatmo's after-sales service did not give me any other solution than to go to the place where I bought the thermostat. So I contacted Amazon, where I bought it and in 20 days +/- after sending them the thermostat and relay, I had back at home a new thermostat and relay, which work perfectly and after three weeks of use the thermostat's batteries have not dropped.
Problem solved!!!
The only work around for this problem is “fake” batteries with a powercord, netatmo told me to buy a new thermostat. Please solve your problems!
Holy cow, I have the exact same problem, battery drained every 3 days and display rotated. And nonetheless in the ticket they questioned the quality of the battery. OK I'm sorry but I'm done too with Netatmo. Too bad because I chose to buy from an European firm... Anyway thank you all for this enlightening thread
