Connecting to WiFi

I see You

I bought my nice new Netatmo Smart Outdoor Camera (without siren), and was very eager to get it installed and to start to use. But that excitement was dashed, although installing was easy as I replaced an existing outdoor lamp at the front of the house and the Router sat just behind the wall on the inside to give optimal connectivity, or so I thought.

The 30 minutes to install as easy and yet 4 days later and a 'shit load' of shear frustrating, I'm getting know where fast.

Following the instructions to the letter, I had to contact my internet provided to change the default settings and allow for dual mode that I can select, either 2.4G or 5G. As the previous default is set to the stronger signal, so would always force me on the 5G. Now that I have control (which I thought I would anyway, but didn't), I can turn on and off either connection.

So to make it easy, I turned off 5G, so I force every new connection to the 2.4G and the existing sensors on the 2.4G remain the same as I kept the SSID name the same for the 2.4G.

Yet, even after rebooting the Router, switching off and on the camera (power supply), resetting the camera with the QR code, I still get on the APP the message you can't connect to a 5G connection on the WiFi.

This is so annoying as there is NO 5G, it is switched off, yet I can't progress to the APP set up as I can't establish a 2.4G connecting. 4 days of trying everything and having friends look at this and walk through it, they are as confused as I am.

Unless we are all stupid (maybe), or the obvious is not so obvious, I need help, as I want to at least see if the camera works. Looking at all the comments on other issues, I'm not holding out too much hope this will be fixed and the next action will be to send back, which will be a great pity as it looks great, just doesn't connect.

Is there a phone number to call as I'm waiting and waiting for help?

I can't seem to find any help or a contact number, besides here that no time response is offered.

I would try to reset the cam using the reset code. Some routers have an automatic mechanism to switch between 2.4G and 5G, maybe you want to check this too.

    Hi Jotata,

Thanks and finally I tried this, but not until I updated the IOS on my mobile, then deleted and reinstalled the App, switched the router off, the power off and on, on the camera, and then I got a full WiFi menu and could actually select my 2.4G I wanted to use.

Then it sprung into live, capturing everything I wanted.

Once working (5 days later), it is great, but there should be an easy to follow 'idiots guide' with a flow chart that you can use..

Having sold IT services, we provided easy steps and flow charts, to stop unnecessary calls to our help-desk and it worked.

I just wonder how many people give up, because they can't find help, there seems (unless I'm looking in the wrong place), to be no email or support number.

A great pity as the product looks great, but if you can't get it working then it is a waste of money, time and a terrible experience.

My motto, or advice is - Make it easy!

Thanks again jotata for your help.
