on non modulating pomps?
Hello,
I just changed my boiler; now it is open-therm, but my Thermosta is the old "non-open-therm".
I would like to change it for the new model, but... while the boiler has a modulating pump, I find myself with 2 other "non-modulating" pumps installed on the manifold of my underfloor heating system.
Now everything works correctly and my doubt is that if I modulated the boiler pump with the 2 pumps that, on the contrary, always push to the maximum, I would risk causing damage and sending the heating system into crisis.
Any ideas?
Thanks

How are the pumps wires connected to your current system right now? Are they wired to the boiler or directly to the old thermostat?
Hello, the pumps (27 years old Grundfos) are connected to the old Thermostat.
The are set on/off by it.
I see, then I‘m afraid you‘re correct and hooking them up to the Modulating Thermostat won‘t work.
Maybe your new boiler actually has terminals for external pumps, some do.
Thanks for answering.
It looks that my boiler (Ariston Class one) can handle external pumps, but the manual talks about modulating pumps.
In that situation, I should change the pumps too? Or could I keep the non-modulating?
As far as I know Ariston boilers are not OpenTherm but Ebusd. So the Netatmo Modulating thermostat won’t be compatible.
That is something that is quiet hard to evaluate from a distance.
Maybe contact the company that set up your new boiler, I‘m sure they can answer you that question.
Luckyly Ariston are now Opetherm since 2022:

OpenTherm è compatibile con le caldaie Ariston di ultima generazione come Genus One, Clas One, Cares S
=:)
PS
Here the link to the pdf on OpenTherm by Ariston:

Thanks for the link! Finally they supported OpenTherm ( Probably EU forced all the boiler manufacturers to support a common protocol ). By the way I think you should install the Light Gateway OT ( index 2 ), if it is not already included, to transform the Ebusd to OpenTherm.
