Thermostatic valve and floor heating
Hello,
I`m using the room thermostat at this moment with my floor heating.
in the near future i want to add the thermostatic valves to the rooms upstairs so these can be heated seperatly as well.
in most cases the rooms upstairs now are colder than the living room. so with the valves they can measure the temperature and tell my boiler to go to work to heat things up. what i don`t want is that they heat up the living room as well so i want to close this seperatly and controlled by the room thermostat.
my floorheating manifold is in the utility room. can i put a thermostatic valve on the supply pipe which is controlled by the room thermostat? so the boiler can heat up the upstairs rooms without sending the hot water to the floor heating?

Yes, it is enough to set the relevant parameter so that the system starts the heating at the request of the thermostatic heads and is not controlled by the thermostat. In the main menu, select the "operating mode" menu, and in the opened menu, select the "Comfort option" parameter in the "main setting" item. In this mode, the system should be controlled by requests from individual thermostatic valves. The thermostat will control the temperature only in the location.
Thank you very much for explaining.
But is it also possible to manage the valve in front of the floor heating manifold by your central room thermostat?
So i want the thermostatic valve to work with the measurements of the room thermostat in stead of his own thermostat.
I have the same problem as Frans, can someone help us out?
Is itpossible to use an actuator on the floor heating block? Are there any acluator who connect with netatmo?
That is actually the only way.
You need to replace the old room thermostats with Netatmo Thermostats (one per room/zone) and wire their Relais to the individual actuators on the heating block.
Using Netatmo Valves like here previously suggested won't work as they can only take the temperature directly were they are installed, which would be next to the heating block in that case.
Unless you have some installment with a Valve-Head sticking out of the wall (sometimes they did that in bathroom installations), you need the Netatmo Thermostats and not the Valves.
Which actuators will work with the netatmo? And how do I connect them with the room thermostat?
Every common 230v floor-heating actuator. You will need to pick one that fits your heating block.
Then you will need to wire it to the Relais and the Netatmo Thermostat will operate wirelessly wich means you can out it anywhere in the room, it doesn't have to be where the old room thermostat was.
How do I wire the actuator to the Relais? There is no wire input
The Relais has two cables with two wires each.
The brown/blue wires need to be connected to a power source.
The grey/black wires never carry any current. All that happens when the Relais turns on is that those two wires get bridged together internally.
So you have to connect the black wire to a power source (L) as well, the grey wire has to be connected to the L wire of the actuator and the actuator‘s blue wire needs to be connected to neutral (N).
Can I use the Honeywell MT4-230-NC-HCC for this?
You can use any thermal 230V actuator. The important part is, that this actuator fits your heating block.
I have a Intergas Extreme 36, the relais is put in the x13 nr 1 and 2. According to the above the grey wire should be connected toe the brown wire of the actuator. But how do I connect the blue wire to the N?
Connecting the Netatmo Relais to an Actuator and a Boiler at the same time won‘t work I‘m afraid.
You would have to use electrical relays to separate those two systems completely, otherwise you will short things out.
How do I connect the actuator to the boiler and work with the relais?
Do I need an extra relais?
Can you please list your complete setup. What do you want to control with the Thermostat in the end. How many floor-heating circuits are there?
Second and 3th floor 9 netatmo radiator valves.
Everything works find but when I ask for heat on the 2 or 3 th floor the floor heating unit on the first floor does not close.
Thank you for explaining.
I‘m afraid this will be a tricky one since you have a mixed system.
You would basically need a 10th Radiator Valve for the floor-heating zone, but this won‘t work properly because the Valve most likely would be situated in a cabinet.
Technically it would be possible to hook the Actuator up to the Thermostat-Unit instead of the Relais, but it would still open and close in synch with the boiler firing up.
You would need another Thermostat/Relais set only for the floor-heating zone. But I honestly don‘t know if it will all behave like intended. If putting that second thermostat in a „room“ in the app would allow that one to trigger the boiler in „comfort priority mode“ like the Valves can.
If I can find an answer I‘ll let you know.
I hoped the actuator would solve the problem
Controlling is the issue here. You need an input (Room Thermostat) that powers the Actuator only when heat is needed in that area, but also communicates with the Netatmo Thermostat connected to your boiler to start it like the Valves do.
Maybe a second Netatmo Thermostat would to that, but I simply don‘t know if the software supports it.
I reached out to the official staff, no word back yet.
Thanks so much for helping me out!🙏
Ok I think we found a possible solution for your specific scenario.
Turns out it won‘t be as simple as just buying another Thermostat because the software wouldn‘t allow that one to control the boiler through the existing Thermostat.
You would need to move your current Thermostat somewhere on the second or third floor (in the app as well), we usually suggest the biggest room. Relais stays connected to the boiler as is.
That Thermostat will then become like a control panel for that room.
For the floor-heating zone you will need a second Netatmo Thermostat and an actuator with an auxiliary port. Those are designed to control a pump but they are basically just actuators with a build-in relay.
You will have to wire the new Thermostat/Relais in front of the actuator and then run 2 wires from it‘s auxiliary port to your boiler and connect them in parallel to your existing Thermostat/Relais.
That way the boiler will run when Thermostat No.2 powers the actuator. But the actuator will not power up (open) if the boiler only gets a call from the 2nd/3rd floor.
I’m unsure if this one would be compatible with the Smart Thermostat, can someone confirm?

I have floor heating and the valve is in another room, hence I’d love a way to manage the valve remotely.
I already have the “Starter kit” running for other rooms, where valve is located on a radiator.
This is a classic 230v actuator, therefore you can wire it with the Netatmo Thermostat.
