Outdoor Module drains batteries

halodd99

I changed the batteries a week ago and they are almost out of power already. What could be wrong?

I have the same issue since about 2/3 months. For some reason it seems like the measures are sent continuously to the main module instead of every 10 minutes like before. Battery is drained in 2 or 3 weeks, this is insane !
Does anyone have solved it ?

Same here, since around 2 months I have been changing outdoor module every 10 days. This is ridiculous.

I asked support about this issue and they did investigate, answer is that outdoor module is broken and cannot be repared... They suggested to buy a new one. This is crazy that they cannot fix such a bug !

I disassembled the outside module by unscrewing the 2 deep seated torx screws. It appeared that a spider had made a web in in a little compartiment behind a tiny opening for the barometer function to work. The mesurement is back to every 10 minutes in stead of every couple of seconds.

@julien.corioland How do you know the module is sending data continuously?

@josch09 the app always says "just now" for the last measures on the home page. Before it was every 10 min.

@julien.corioland ok, I see thank you! On my side it collects still every 5 mins, while new batteries drain within 10-20 days since a few month...

funny, mine is also showing "just now" all the time (firmware 53) - previously it was a few minutes interval

other unit in my parents house is showing correclty interval "in minutes" - and battery runs normally there

i have been using the outdoor module in the same position for over 6 years. for some time now i have had to change the batteries more and more frequently. the batteries in the outdoor module are empty after a few weeks. yesterday i inserted new fresh and full varta batteries and today the display shows 52%. Firmware 53

Same here. Firmware 53. I need new batteries every 1/2 weeks. Crazy. Fix needed, or this station is going away.

I have exactly the same problem as you describe. I have 3 netatmo sets. The first one I had - worked perfectly, and the battery in the external module lasted a very long time (so long that I don't remember how often I changed the batteries). Unfortunately, external module was stolen and I bought a new one. The new one worked the same way, until one day it started to use up the batteries like crazy. Even the most expensive "industrial" batteries lasted less than 3 weeks, cheap batteries - few days.. I reported it for warranty, found out that the module was damaged and I had to buy a new one. I bought a new one - it uses up the battery just as quickly.. This is clearly a software fault, not a device or battery... But why is no one doing anything about it? They made a good product, and now they want to ruin the good reputation with one update... Sick..

I have the same issue with the outdoor module using batteries a a ridiculous rate.  When is this going to be fixed.

I have the same issue. I'll purchase a new/different weather monitor rather than purchasing a new outdoor unit. The environmental impact of consuming batteries at this rate is significant.

Why is tech support not commenting on this problem?

I received a response from support. After remote diagnostics, they said that there was no way to remove this error and that I could buy a new external module. I bought it, the module came with software 50, but it was updating to 53. It does not actually use up the battery that quickly. From information found on another forum, the cause may be insects or other things that got inside the device. I am going to do some reverse engineering soon and see which element is responsible for using it up so quickly. When I finish, I will share my conclusions.

This is a firmware issue.  I am not buying another outdoor module or any Netatmo device for that matter if this isn't resolved.  Every thing was fine before the firmware update.  If you search the forum you will see many complaints about the outdoor module using batteries up in a very short period of time.  This is a systemic problem and support is dodging the issue.

Same type of issue, changed batterys in jan, module went offline 9th of sept (batterys dead), new batterys 5th of okt.. and now it's warning about the batterys running low. Uppdate 53. Ffs..

Same problem here, draining batteries in a week or two.
Checked the module, no insects or other damage or problems = it's a software problem.
Why are there no comments from Netatmo tech in this discussion?
If this won't be solved so I will find another manufacturer, there is those who have solar power and no battery issues on the market also!

I have the same problem with batteries on the outdoor module lasting 2-3 weeks. I dissembled it and made sure the circuit was clean and I cleaned the battery contacts and reassembled it and still same problem.
Is this a firmware issue? With new batteries it’s seems to otherwise work fine and circuit board looks in good condition.
How can I reach out to Netatmo tech support?
Very frustrating and makes me reluctant to get more Netatmo modules such as the smoke alarm, security camera, etc. The rain gauge works well and very seldom needs new batteries. Pity as I like the app.

I have same problem - wrote to Netatmo in 2023 - they wrote that I had to buy new - did not buy new - still have to change batteries every 2 weeks - Netatmo should fix the software problem - or give free replacement of outdoor unit

I just bought a new one 6 weeks ago because the old one died. The new module has now used 3 sets of batteries and has now stopped agian. I have made a ticket at Netatmo, and expect them to fix this otherwise I am returning it as defective

My module is again about to die with the batteries, Now I bought 1000mAh rechargeable batteries that I will put in next (was most energy that I could find)
Let's see how long they will last..

I find that rechargeable batteries do not last nearly as long as good quality lithium batteries.  I also find that the closer you place your Outdoor module to your Main station the longer your batteries will last.

Same issue here - I'm using AAA rechargeable batteries (800 mAh and 1000 mAh), and they last for 4-7 days, depending on the weather.

I've set a monitoring on the battery drain, these are the curves I got during the last 30 days:

Hopefully, this will help Netamo/Legrand engineers and support teams to figure out which component is faulty here.

    Happy to give more insights!

I have the same problem. Batteries started to last about 1-2 weeks. It seems to have started at the same time as an update, but I can't be sure.

Buying a new unit is not an option and seems to be a very lazy solution from Netatmo. With people buying new units and getting the same problem it's not even lazy - just wrong. Could very well be a HW change where older units don't work well with a new FW.

I will leave it at this for some time and see If Netatmo will address the issue honestly. If not - I'm leaving. There are better products out there now

    Same problem here, fw53.
But mine is not as bad as most here, mine lasts 2-3 months. Call me crazy but I have noted down battery changes since 2022, the system was at that point many years old.
But the first record I have is I changed to new batteries 07. April 2020, and changed them again 01. September 2022. Looks like mid 2023 it started to get down to a couple of months.

Not related but this pisses me off. My indoor module suddenly started disconnecting from the network, and becoming unavailable. I asked support for help and they straight up told me to buy a new one. I was pissed but I tried doing a factory reset first. What happens? It started working FINE! And have now for a year!!!!!!!!!

My anemometer leaked water after halv a year and was dead, got a new one on warranty, it lasted a couple of years before it to had a small leak, I glued it, taped it to try and prevent more leaks. Lasted a couple of more years but now it’s dead and the plastic is cracked everywhere.

I really liked their products, but I have come to realize it’s total garbage dogshit crap. Looking for something better.
