8VA means this transformer will deliver 1 Ampere of power on 8V. 24V with 8VA actually reduces the Ampere to 0.33 You can check the math here: https://www.rapidtables.com/calc/electric/va-to-amps-...

If you want want to use the OpenThem Thermostat then you have to connect the Relais to those wires. The „Smart Modulating Thermostat“ itself has no connectors and can only be used wirelessly.
