Check its composition
A secure password is one that's extremely difficult for any machine or person other than yourself to guess. So, it shouldn't contain strings of characters (words) or numbers that are common or easily associated with you.
For example, if you live in Paris and your cat's called Angel, a password like "angel-paris" isn't a secure password.
Create a strong, easy-to-remember password
At the time of writing, a secure password is made up of at least 12 characters, including at least 1 upper-case letter, 1 lower-case letter, 1 number and 1 special character.
To create a strong password, you can take the first letter of every word in an easy-to-remember phrase and add special characters.
Example: The phrase "I've lived in Paris since 28 June 2021 with my cat Angel."
can give you a very strong and easy-to-remember password: IliP$28J21wmcA!
Use a different password for every account
A password should only be used on one account and shouldn't look like your other passwords or contain information that can be linked to your account.
For example, if you create a Netatmo account, your password shouldn't look like: 123Netatmo!123.
Check regularly that it's not included in a hacked database
You can check that one of your passwords or a password that you want to create has never been leaked and doesn't appear in hacked password databases.
To do so, click this link Have I Been Pwned: Pwned Passwords and enter your password.
If the message "Good news — no pwnage found" appears on a green background, there's nothing to worry about. If not, you need to choose another password.
Use a password manager
When passwords are complex and unique for every account you have, it can be difficult to remember all of them without writing them down somewhere. You want to avoid this.
To protect your passwords and keep them secure, it's recommended that you use a password manager, which will protect your credentials in an encrypted and locked database using a unique password. So, you only need to remember one password! Most modern password managers also check that passwords aren't included in hacked databases.
