Geofencing is a technology that uses location data to create a virtual zone around a physical location, such as your home. When a mobile device enters or exits this zone, predefined actions can be triggered automatically.
What is geofencing used for in Home + Security?
The use of geofencing in Home + Security is optional. It can be used to detect the departure of a profile from the home without manual intervention. When the mobile device associated with this profile is detected outside the home, the profile is automatically considered "away" by the app and cameras. This can allow for quicker resumption of surveillance, particularly in the context of Smart Privacy (What is Smart Privacy and how does it work?)
This feature replaces the default automatic absence delay defined for all profiles. For security, a profile associated with geofencing will be considered away after 24 hours even if geofencing has not yet detected an exit from the zone around the home.
Note: Geofencing does not detect entries into the home. For security reasons, facial recognition by a camera is preferred to identify people entering the home.
How to activate geofencing?
To activate geofencing on your device, go to: Settings > Alert and recordings settings > Edit profiles > [Your profile] then enable the "It's me" option and geofencing.
It is necessary to allow the Home + Security app to "always" access your location, even in the background, in your device settings. Also, make sure to verify the address of your home which will be used by the app to define the geofencing zone.
Important: Please note that the performance of this feature may vary depending on your phone's battery management settings. Some operating systems may optimize power consumption, which can delay or prevent real-time notifications.
We recommend checking and adjusting your phone's settings to improve the accuracy of this feature. For more information on optimal configuration according to your device, please follow the links below:
