How do I change the batteries?
The Valves use two AA/LR06 alkaline batteries (1.5V).
Steps
- Open the front panel of the Valve applying a small anti-clockwise rotation.
- Open the metal battery cover.
- Insert the batteries ensuring the positive and negative ends correspond.
- Close the metal battery cover and replace the front panel.

Low battery level
The Valve will continue to function as normal.
It is possible to view the Valve’s low battery level:
- In the app (an error appears).
- On the Valve screen itself.
It is recommended to replace the Valve with new batteries within four weeks in order to continue to benefit from all the features of the Netatmo Smart Valves.
Empty batteries
The Valve can no longer be controlled (neither by the app nor manually). The Valve is fully open in order to avoid damaging the circuit (if hot water circulates, the radiator will warm up).
It is possible to view the Valve’s zero battery level:
- In the app (an error appears).
- On the Valve screen itself.
It is recommended to replace the Valve with new batteries as soon as possible in order to continue to benefit from all the features of the Netatmo Smart Valves.
How to optimize battery life
The lifespan of the batteries used to power the Valves is conditioned by several factors.
For optimum autonomy, it is necessary in particular to use good quality batteries and to ensure that the operation of the radiator valve body is correct.
Batteries
- Rechargeable batteries should not be used, as the power delivered by these batteries is not sufficient to operate the motor properly.
- It is not recommended to use batteries purchased several years ago even if they have not been used, as their performance decreases over time. Check the expiration date on the packaging.
- The Valves are designed to operate with 1.5V AA alkaline batteries. However, better performance can be obtained with 1.5V lithium batteries (non-rechargeable).
Radiator valve body
A valve body piston that is difficult to push will result in higher energy consumption. It can even cause calibration errors if it is seized up.
We recommend that you regularly check the valve bodies of all your radiators:
- Visual appearance: there should be no traces of rust or oxidation, which would indicate the presence of a leak. If this is the case, a replacement should be considered.
- Operation: The movement of the piston from one stopper to the other must be smooth and free from hard points. It is recommended to lubricate it with silicone grease to minimize friction in order to guarantee optimal operation and better longevity.
